Seafarers, Certification and Social Affairs

Seafarers, Certification and Social Affairs is responsible for work by the Danish Maritime Authority for seafarers’ conditions on Danish ships, and the "SejlSikkert" efforts in recreational sailing. The office is responsible for management and development of social aspects for the maritime sector, including enforcement of regulations and issuance of certificates for seafarers, fishermen, recreational sailors and yacht masters, as well as education and training in medical care at CMS Fanø.

SOC is responsible for:

  • Service for shipping companies, seafarers, fishermen etc., wihtin maritime social matters
  • Issuance of Certificates of Competency, - Proficiency, - Recognition, Medical Certificates, Dishcarge Books, Ship Station Licenses and certificates for recreational sailors
  • Education and training of seafarers in medical care at the Centre for Maritime Health Services on Fanø
  • Approval and administration of approved providers of tests for recreational sailors
  • Administration of health insurance and sickness benefits for seafarers
  • Administration and enforcement of regulations concerning seafarers’ medical fitness and occupational injuries
  • Statistics on seafarers onboard Danish ships
  • Handling of complaints concerning medical certificates, employment conditions, rest hours, and conditions onboard
  • Authorization of maritime medical examiners and diving medical examiners
  • Secretariat for Søsportens Sikkerhedsråd
  • Responsible for the SejlSikkert initiative in the recreational sailors segment
